Versatility - I don't know about all of you, but I like to do things in my life as broadly as possible because it allows me the ability to stay open-minded to change. We live in a constantly changing world. It leaves you with endless opportunities and you can write about anything and everything that suits your mood that day. When I hear the genres "Fitness", "Beauty" and "Fashion" blog, all I ever picture reading about is solely just fitness, beauty, and fashion. I personally love the idea of having a lifestyle blog because you can be so versatile with it. One day I might feel like being a wannabe fashionista and blog about some knock-off brand shoes that I bought (because lord only knows I wasn't born into money), then the next day I might feel like writing about events in my personal life.
Personability - Every time I come across a blog of a specific genre, I mostly feel like they are pretty much all the same in one way or another. I mean, yeah, I become a little more educated than I was before by reading about a specific topic, but I can ever hardly connect with the bloggers personality with a specific genre. It's also really difficult to stand apart with a specified genre blog. In my opinion, I just get bored with specified genre blogs because it's always predictable and stiff. With a lifestyle blog, you never really know what a blogger is going to be writing about next . . . of course it will be something related to lifestyle, but it could be anything . . . fashion, music, movies, personal life events, beauty, charity, fitness, parenting, advice, giveaways, etc; just anything really.

Also, with a lifestyle blog, you will eventually write something that either everyone will like or can relate to which is basically a prelude to my next topic. Not everyone is into fashion. Not everyone is into DIY. Catch my drift? Through diversity is where a person's personality is most likely to shine through. I like feeling like I'm not just reading another typical blog. Coming across a blog where I can experience a person's realness is something that I truly admire. For me, it's not just about playing the "Blogger Poker Face" and making it out to be that you live some enchanted fairy tail life. I give kudos to the people who can openly admit their flaws and mistakes. Every single day isn't always rays of sunshine and daffodils. I find desirable what most people don't -- sarcasm. It excites me and draws me to genuinely follow a blog when I don't know what to expect from day to day and that I could experience anything from entertainment to education.
Relatiable - People will eventually be able to relate to your blog in one way or another. When you have a blog of a specific genre, you lessen the chances that everyone will ever be able to relate to your blog. Like I said previously, not everyone is into fashion and not everyone is into DIY. People who aren't into fashion or DIY may never read your blog, so you stunt the potential your blog could ultimately have.
Granted, I know the fashion blogs aren't hurting for followers by any means, but if you're someone like me, you are the type of person who prefers to read blogs with versatility. I really do have to take a minute here to acknowledge that I really do have a pair of steal balls on me to say that I prefer blogs of versatility because most of my followers are fashion genre specified. However, just know that my love for fashion blogs are strong and real. I'm just trying to help out the demotivated lifestyle blogger -- help a sister out!
Entertainment - Lifestyle blogs (again, in my opinion) are the most entertaining. One day I could read about how someone fell flat on their face, accidentally farted at a family dinner (which I have yet to come across a blogger who is ballsy enough to admit that publicly), or just read about the typical entertainment world such as movie spoilers or new potential one hit wonders in the music industry.
Knowledgeable - I thrive off of education, but I don't want to have a migraine everyday either. Occasionally, I like to learn things through reading other blogs but again, on different topics. Bloggers who offer a wide range of shared knowledge are most likely to be the most favored. One minute I could be learning how to make a homemade lip gloss from Crystal Light powder and Vaseline, the next I could be learning how to customize different aspects of your blog. I fancy blogs that teach me different things every time I read their blog. Those are the type of blogs that keep me genuinely, avidly following their blogs.
With all of that being said, you can really do a lot of things with a lifestyle blog. It can be specific or broad. It can either be solely personalized to you and the events in your personal life, sharing those experiences with the public eye or it can generally touch upon topics that people experience everyday (that you may or may not have personally experienced) with the intention to educated and make it so people don't feel like they are all alone when it comes to those certain topics. The choice is yours!
If anything, it should ease your mind and boost your motivation by knowing that all the specific genres can fit into a lifestyle blog. Why wouldn't it motivate you to know that your blog is designed to write about anything and everything? The possibilities are unlimited!
Note; relatiable and personability aren't considered real words according to the English dictionary, but I really feel that they should be because they totally make sense. Do they not?
I mean, check it out --
Relatiable - (Adj). The ability to relate to someone or something.
Personability - (Noun). The ability to be pleasant in appearance and manner.
Oh, yeah. Check me out! Oxford should definitely hire me as a contributor to the English dictionary. Okay, maybe I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself there. Hey, a girl can have a dream!
Love this post! Lifestyle blogs all the way!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love being a lifestyle blogger. I reckon I'd get bored of just writing about fashion, or just writing about beauty. At least a lifestyle blog can incorporate anything into it :)
