So, last night I had a sleep study done. The doctor highly recommended that I have one done due to waking up one morning gasping for air. It wasn't fun to say the least. It took me about 30 seconds or so to catch my breath back to a normal pace. I ended up going to the emergency room because I was having chest pain significantly enough to be concerned about it along with shortness of breath. So far, I've only had that one breath holding spell. However, I'm glad I had that wake up call because otherwise, I probably wouldn't have known that I had sleep apnea. I'm not even quite sure I have it 100% yet. It takes them approximately two weeks to get the results. The doctor told me that if I never had that wake up call and the test does result in sleep apnea, if untreated, I could have seen congestive heart failure at a young age due to not getting enough oxygen when I sleep.
(This is my "I'm ready!" face)
I arrived at about 8:30 for the sleep study. I chose the later appointment because I usually wait until Jason leaves for work (10:30ish p.m) to lay down and typically fall asleep around 12-1ish p.m. However, I had them hook me up earlier because I wasn't allowed to take a nap all day yesterday, so I was more tired than usual.
Here I am, all wired up! I had to sleep on my back the whole night which was super uncomfortable for me because I'm a stomach sleeper. I probably fell asleep around 9:30-10ish. Once she hooked me up, she had me do a series of tests in order to make sure that the equipment was working right. I did things like open my eyes, blink, shut my eyes, move my left leg, move my right leg, hold my breath for 10 seconds, breath normal, etc. We did the same tests after I woke up too. It was definitely interesting.
She woke me up around 10 minutes of 6 in the morning. I did NOT like waking up that early at all! The technician was really nice. We chatted it up like we've been best-friends-forever while she hooked me up and gave me a bottle of orange juice before I left. Jason picked me up after he got out of work and surprised me by taking me out to breakfast at IHOP which I completely enjoyed! I still had all the gooey stuff in my hair from the sleep study, but I rocked it like it was nobody's business. I covered the goop with strands of my hair. Come hell over high water, I was going to breakfast. Jason doesn't make many offers to go out to breakfast, so I didn't want to pass it up! I had physical therapy at 12 today, so between the two, I'm pretty exhausted.
